My YouTube Story
At the start of 2020, I began making YouTube videos about language learning as a hobby. By then, I was already fluent in Korean, and a Korean friend suggested, "Why don’t you try uploading videos in Korean?" I didn’t have much else to do during the pandemic, so I decided to give it a shot.
Since then, a lot of time has passed, and most of my followers now see me as “someone who teaches language acquisition” on YouTube—but that was just the beginning. I’ve made hundreds (maybe even thousands) of videos since then, and most of them have nothing to do with language learning. There are even a few embarrassing ones I ended up taking down—the kind you cringe at the second you hit play. I’ll probably share those in some form another time.
Even though I started YouTube as just a hobby, I officially decided to become a full-time content creator in August 2023. It hasn’t been that long, but looking back, I realize it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Today, I run over eight different YouTube channels. You can see a trailer for each one at the bottom of this page.
Except for the Korean hip-hop channel I now co-run with a friend, I’ve managed every channel entirely on my own since the beginning—and I still do.
I handle everything myself—from planning, filming, and editing to designing thumbnails, writing emails, responding to comments, running my business, and building communities for each channel.
I don’t hire video editors, social media managers, or any other staff—not because I think I’m amazing at content creation, but because I can be a bit stubborn and like to keep full creative control. That said, since collaborating on the hip-hop channel, I’ve come to appreciate the value of teamwork.
So, this is a short summary of my YouTube journey. I plan to expand on it and update it with more details over time!
